G.R.E.A.T. stands for Gang Resistance Education and Training. The G.R.E.A.T. Program is a curriculum taught to school aged children by police officers with the primary principal of gang prevention. The use of law enforcement officers provides several advantages. Officers have extensive experience, are prepared with referral knowledge, serve as positive role models and are trained to recognize gang behaviors. The goal of the G.R.E.A.T. program is to help youth avoid gang membership, prevent violence and criminal activity and to develop a positive relationship with law enforcement.
