Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Aroma Park Man for Discharging Firearm
Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on February 27, deputies from the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Kankakee Police Department were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the area of Strasma South Drive in Aroma Park.
As deputies arrived in the area, they heard an additional gunshot. A Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) equipped with thermal imaging was deployed, and deputies observed the suspect, 69-year-old Michael C. Setticosi, attempting to conceal multiple firearms above the porch area near a gutter. Setticosi was initially non-compliant with verbal commands but ultimately surrendered without incident.
The investigation indicates the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute with neighbors. Deputies secured multiple firearms inside the residence. The complainant reported that Setticosi discharged several rounds prior to law enforcement’s arrival. At this time, no injuries have been reported and no property damage has been located.
Setticosi is currently being held at the Jerome Combs Detention Center pending a detention hearing. He was booked on the following charges:
Aggravated Battery/Discharge of a Firearm
Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm/Occupied Building
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Sheriff Mike Downey stated:
“I am proud of the professionalism and restraint demonstrated by our deputies during this incident. Their quick response, along with the effective deployment of our UAS technology, helped bring this situation to a safe resolution without injury. I also want to thank the Kankakee Police Department for their prompt assistance and continued partnership in keeping our communities safe.’
