Constellation Braidwood Generating Station
The Braidwood Generating Station is located in Braceville, IL. The Station has 2 nuclear units which started in 1988 and is currently approved to operate until 2047. Both units are Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR).
Federal law requires nuclear operating companies to develop emergency response plans for their nuclear energy facilities and to ensure evacuation plans are in place in the highly unlikely event of an emergency. Portions of Kankakee County are in the Sub Areas, Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ), for the Braidwood Generating Station. Special plans have been developed to protect the public in the event of a nuclear incident in our community. These plans give specific attention to people who live, work or visit within 10 miles of a nuclear power plant. Procedures are in place to help protect the public in the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency.
The Braidwood Nuclear Generating Station Public Information Brochure (PIBs) contains information about general radiological emergency preparedness, including reception center locations, evacuation routes, a map, and list of emergency alert broadcast stations. The brochure includes an Access & Functional Needs card to be completed and returned by people who may have special transportation or other needs.
